CHIEF EXCECUTIVE OFFICER role

Durban(Hammarsdale)

Our client, located in Durban, Hammarsdale, is seeking a dynamic and visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead their strategic growth. The CEO will be responsible for developing and executing business strategies, fostering a high-performance culture, and overseeing the financial strategy to meet targets in a unionized environment. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, financial expertise, and the ability to inspire teams to excel in a competitive business landscape.

A five-year fixed term performance-based contract for the role of Chief Executive Officer to lead group into its next phase of growth and innovation, driving business strategy, operational excellence, and sustainable growth while ensuring profitability and market competitiveness. 

Experience and Knowledge 

 

  • At least 10 years of experience as a CEO or Senior Executive Level in strategic leadership role within manufacturing, textiles manufacturing experience would be an advantage 
  • 5 years of experience and background in the turnaround of distressed business, added advantage 
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of applicable industry legislation and regulatory framework, including experience in their application. 
  • History of excellent relations with all stakeholders. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commercial, Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). 
  • Post Graduate qualifications such as MBA / MBL / CIMA/ Finance would be advantageous

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Provide strategic leadership by developing and implementing business strategies and tactical plans.
  •  Oversee group operations across key functions, including production, finance, sales, marketing, human capital, and IT.
  •  Develop and secure approval for strategic roadmaps, obtain necessary resources, and ensure timely execution in alignment with policies and governance frameworks.
  • Design and structure the business, its divisions, and supporting functions to drive strategic execution. 
  • Strengthen the group’s capacity by building an effective senior management team and ensuring competent leadership and staff.
  • Oversee performance management to achieve business objectives while fostering growth, sustainability, and long-term progress.

Business Development 

  • Identify and develop new local and export market opportunities while optimizing raw material sourcing and enhancing product offerings. 
  • Maintain a balanced customer profile and drive competitiveness by leveraging technological advancements, industry innovations, and global trends.
  • Continuously scout for technological improvements, new industry innovations and global trends to benefit the group’s competitiveness.

Leadershi and Accountability

  • Provide strategic leadership to uphold the group’s mission, core values, and effective culture. 
  • Drive talent management and succession planning to ensure business continuity. Maintain high standards of governance, accountability, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. 
  • Oversee risk management, human capital, processes, and assets while ensuring profitability and ethical business practices.

Financial Management

  • Lead the development and execution of the group’s financial strategy to achieve financial targets and long-term sustainability. 
  • Oversee financial structuring, budgeting, and commercial arrangements in alignment with business objectives.
  •  Ensure financial stability, and compliance with legal and policy requirements, and optimize organizational effectiveness to maximize profitability and return on investment.

Strategic Partnerships and Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with industry policymakers, key customers, industry bodies, labour unions, and financial institutions. 
  • Effectively manage a unionized environment while ensuring transparent shareholder engagement and reporting on operational performance and group progress.

Risk Management and Business Continuity plan

  • Identify and assess potential risks to business continuity in alignment with the business strategy and roadmaps. 
  • Lead the development of comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery plans, ensuring regular reviews and implementation readiness.
  • Oversee the creation of a Risk Management framework, ensuring proper mitigation and management of risks. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, corporate governance standards, and timely resolution of audit findings.
